Dow AgroSciences, Mertec LLC, MS Technologies LLC Collaborate to Bring New Soybean Technologies to U.S. Soybean Growers
Growers will have more options in their herbicide choices for enhanced weed control & effective weed resistance management
West Point, Iowa and Indianapolis (June 4, 2008)– Dow AgroSciences LLC, Mertec LLC and M.S. Technologies LLC announced today that they have entered into a long-term, non-exclusive agreement to jointly develop and commercialize several innovative technologies for use in soybeans globally. Under the agreement, Dow AgroSciences and M.S. Technologies will combine proprietary technologies with Mertec’s soybean germplasm. These products will be available first to U.S. soybean growers with an option to expand globally.
“We are very pleased to work with M.S. Technologies and Mertec,” said Jerome Peribere, president and CEO of Dow AgroSciences. “The development of traits is a long journey. When these new technologies have completed their development and are registered, we want to ensure we have outstanding genetics to combine with the traits. We believe this combination of traits and genetics will be the new standard for yield performance and weed control in soybeans.”
The collaboration builds on the existing relationship between Dow AgroSciences and Mertec, a leader in developing industry leading soybean genetics for the U.S. soybean grower.
The first product launch will be Dow AgroSciences’ Herbicide Tolerance 2 (DHT2) trait that will provide tolerance to the herbicide 2,4-D. The estimated time for launch is 2013. Following the DHT2 trait will be the development of other technologies including a glyphosate tolerant and 2,4-D tolerant combination.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
